Today, December 5th, marks what would be the 108th birthday for Walt Disney!Walt Disney was an amazing person that achieved his success through perseverance, hard work, and an incredible imagination. His life story is one that is filled with an unyielding spirit to prevail despite many early hardships and failures.
You can learn more about the story of Walt Disney the man at an often overlooked Disney World attraction called Walt Disney: One Man's Dream located in Disney's Hollywood Studios. While guests rush to get to the nearby Toy Story Mania, there are rarely crowds entering the attraction to learn more about the man who started it all.
Originally created for the anniversary of the 100th year of Walt's birth in 2001, Walt Disney: One Man's Dream is a wonderful attraction to learn more about the man, as well as, some of the key highlights in Disney history.
The attraction has two parts. The first part is a self guided tour through the Gallery which is a Walt Disney museum of sorts.
Here you can see Walt's 2nd grade school desk from his school in Marceline, Missouri complete with his initials carved into it.
In all there are over 400 artifacts that are rotated through the Gallery. Some of the items you may see include:
•Audio and film clips that contain previously unseen footage and interviews with Walt Disney•Model for the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction
•Early Mickey Mouse and Disney World memorabilia.
•Models of Main Street, U.S.A. from Disneyland Resort
•Planning model for Disney's California Adventure theme park
•Scaled replicas of Sleeping Beauty castle in Disneyland Resort and Disneyland Paris Resort
•Special Academy Award statues for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
•Prototypes of early animation cameras and equipment that Walt invented to create breakthroughs in the technology.
•Early Audio-Animatronic Figures.
After you peruse the Gallery at your own pace, you enter the 2nd part of the attraction: the Theater.
Here you will see a short film about Walt Disney and his life. It is very well done and is quite enjoyable to see.
Because the attraction is self paced it is suitable for the entire family. This is an attraction that should not be skipped. It is defintely worthwhile to spend some time seeing the history of the man and the company that is presented.
