Star Tours opened at Disney's Hollywood Studios (originally Disney-MGM Studios) on Dec. 15th, 1989 and is now celebrating its 20th Anniversary.
Star Tours is a great attraction for Star Wars Fans of all ages. One of the great parts of the attraction is actually the pre-ride queue.
Here you will get to see many different droids performing a variety of tasks. Star Wars fans will instantly recognize R2D2 and C3PO, those popular droids that appeared in all of the Star Wars Movies.
Star Wars fans will appreciate the detail in creating the droids that populate the Star Tours pre-ride queue. It really gives you the feel that you are on a space station, as you are surrounded by droids busy at work doing various tasks.
With a major overhaul of the attraction due to occur sometime in October of 2010, there is that element of the unknown. Jay Rasulo announced at the D23 convention "We're closing Star Tours in order to create a spectacular new adventure. We're going to do things with Star Tours that have never been done in any theme park attraction, at any theme park anywhere."
What will become of these lovable droids? Will they remain or will the pre-ride queue be changed and the droids sent to the scrap heap?
Star Wars fans deserve the remodeled and updated Star Tours attraction. Now reaching its 20th anniversary, Star Tours was created before the 3 latest Star Wars live action movies and Star Wars - The Clone Wars were added. It is time to take advantage of the latest technology.
The new experience will be in 3-D, an all new ride that includes many of the new worlds and elements from the more recent Star Wars movies. Fans have been teased with a Disney Real-D 3-D clip that threw the Starspeeder 3000 into the thick of the Boonta Eve Podrace.
Happy 20th Anniversary Star Tours!
It has been great to meet RX-24 (Rex) and all of the droids at the attraction. We can't wait to see what the future brings for this great attraction for all ages.
May The Force Be With You!
