This weekend at the D23 Expo in Japan, Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts revealed many of the new attractions that are currently in the works for the Disney parks around the world. Of most interest was the update about the previously announced Star Wars Resort that will be built at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.
From the official Disney press release:
This first-of-its-kind resort will combine luxury with complete immersion into an authentic Star Wars story. Guests’ journey through space will start when everyone departs together for a multiday Stars Wars adventure by boarding a starship alive with characters and stories that unfold all around them during a voyage through the galaxy.
At the resort, guests immediately become active citizens of the galaxy and can dress up in the proper attire. Every resort window will also have a view into space. The opportunity for immersion at this resort will also stand out among all Disney resorts around the globe, as it will be seamlessly connected to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, allowing guests a total Star Wars experience.
Previously released artist's renderings of the Star Wars Resort:
This new resort is an ambitious step forward in themed resorts for Disney. Instead of just nicely decorated rooms and well-appointed lobbies that support a central theme, the Star Wars Resort is going to go further by attempting to create a totally immersive experience for guests.
To supplement the immersive Resort experience is the newly revealed knowledge that the Resort will be located at the edge of the new land - Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disney's Hollywood Studios with probable special access and entry into the park.
Star Wars fans have had a special relationship with Disney World ever since the creation of Star Wars Weekends brought Star Wars Characters, Actors, & Creators to Disney's Hollywood Studios for special days to enjoy and celebrate all things Star Wars. This was the beginning of Star Wars fans being encouraged to dress up as their favorite characters and enjoy in the experience.
The immersive resort concept will be taking the casual cosplay to another level to engage Star Wars fans as well as vacationing families.
We at Only WDWorld look forward to seeing what the Imagineers at Disney can come up with to truly create this magical experience
